Are the Things You Dread Really That Bad?

Life has a funny way of surprising us when we least expect it.
Picture this: I'm standing outside in the freezing cold, frost crunching beneath my feet, sheep grazing nearby, and I'm thinking, "What the f!” The bootcamp organisers had chosen a location with no indoor facilities, which meant every single workout – even the 6am sessions – would be entirely outdoors.
My inner voice was screaming, "Get me out of here.” But you know what? Those moments became some of my most cherished memories.
Let me be honest – I'm not naturally the first person to volunteer for a walk or jump into an adventure. I need serious persuasion. But once I'm in it? Magic happens.
This week taught me something profound: our biggest barriers are often the stories we tell ourselves.
My Personal Bootcamp Revelations:
Stepping Out of Comfort: I didn't want to go kayaking. I did it anyway. Result? Unexpected joy.
Team Challenges: Raft building seemed intimidating. I didn’t want to get wet! I participated. Absolutely loved it.
Playful Learning: Who knew adults could have so much fun playing tag on their knees or racing at human sized noughts and crosses with cones?
Every single workout is worth it. Just. Do. It.
And while we're being real? Those doughnuts? Rarely worth it.
My happiest moments came from feeling challenged, connecting with new people, and embracing the unexpected.
Whether it was exercising alongside sheep with a view that could be a postcard, or pushing my physical limits in the crisp morning air, I lent into my truth: growth happens outside our comfort zones.
What Actually Happened: My Week in Brief
For those curious about the nitty-gritty, here's a snapshot of my adventures following last week’s article:
EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute) workouts
Gym whiteboard challenges
Kayaking on the River Avon
Hiking the stunning Malvern Hills
Kettlebell sessions
Raft building escapades
More hot tubs
A blissful massage session for recovery
The Bigger Picture
This isn't just about a fitness bootcamp. It's about challenging perceptions, embracing discomfort, and discovering parts of yourself you didn't know existed.
Sometimes, the things we dread most are simply opportunities wrapped in disguise. All we need is the courage to unwrap them.
Who knows what adventure awaits you?
